The Sr. Engineering Manager leads the team of front-end UI engineers responsible for building the Microsoft.com web framework (UI framework for use on Microsoft’s web properties using HTML, CSS and JavaScript). As an experienced software engineering manager, you work with your peers across disciplines (program management, marketing, design, engineering, and operations) to prioritize new features that benefit digital experiences across Microsoft. You thrive evangelizing and building systems that can scale and be leveraged by many to achieve compelling, standards-based experiences for visitors across the globe on an endless list of devices.

The ideal candidate is a design-minded, front-end development leader with full-stack chops and a passion for leading great teams.

Responsibilities

Lead and coach a team of software engineers to deliver the Microsoft web framework and accessible digital experiences for Microsoft.com.

Create clarity and energy by communicating team vision, strategy and progress to peers, partners and senior leaders. Build excitement and adoption of the framework across Microsoft.

Align on development priorities with partners in UX & UI design, marketing, program management, accessibility and engineering.

Collaborate with engineering partners to develop front end solutions that can be scaled across content management solutions.

Evangelize adoption and identify co-development contribution models to the evolving framework to enable scale and agility for partner teams.

Help team to design system architecture that enables reusable, interoperable templates and components in a cross-platform, accessible design system.

Leverage your experience with a broad range of technology stacks, platforms and workflow tools to enable scale and advance systems across engineering teams.

Qualifications

3+ years managing engineering or product management teams.

5+ years developing accessible front-end experiences leveraging HTML, CSS, and modern ES6 JavaScript/Typescript. Experience leveraging and designing testing practices frameworks to enable iterative releases at scale.

Experience developing accessible front-end frameworks or libraries.

Working knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.

Mobile-first approaches to web design using fluid grids, flexible images, and media queries.

Proactive communicator who thrives delivering results through inclusive, cross-group partnerships.

Excellent written and presentation communications skills. Able to build stories that compel action.

Experience with agile methodologies is a plus, a willingness to adopt them is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing full-stack applications in React or other SPA frameworks.

Experience cultivating open source and inner source projects.

Experience integrating web frameworks with Content Management Systems, including Adobe Experience Manager.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
